Everything You Need to Know
FAQs

Cavoodles can have a variety of coat types, and each one has its own look and grooming needs. The coat a puppy develops can depend on genetics.
Fleece Coat
A fleece coat is one of the most popular coat types in Cavoodles. It is soft, silky, and can range from slightly wavy to loose curls. Fleece coats are generally non-shedding and are known for being gentle to the touch, making them a favourite for families. They do require regular brushing and grooming to stay mat-free and healthy.
Wool Coat
A wool coat is more tightly curled and dense, similar in texture to a Poodle’s coat. This coat type is non-shedding and can be more allergy-friendly. Wool coats require consistent grooming and maintenance, as the tighter curls can mat if not cared for regularly.
Shaggy Coat
A shaggy coat is typically straight with little to no curl and has a soft, flowing texture. This coat type is non-shedding and is usually easy to maintain in terms of matting, but still benefits from regular brushing and grooming to keep the coat healthy and tidy.
A note on coat predictability
Coat type can vary even within the same litter. While we are very good at predicting coats based on parent coats, genetics, and experience, each puppy is unique, and their coat will continue to develop as they grow.
At Cavoodle Cottage, we carefully consider coat type alongside temperament and health when planning our breeding program.
-
All puppies experience some degree of colour change as they transition from their soft puppy coat into their adult coat. This is a completely normal part of development and is especially common in Cavoodles.
As puppies mature, their coat can lighten, soften, or change tone over time, particularly throughout the first 12–24 months. Some colours may fade more noticeably than others depending on genetics, coat type, and the individual puppy. By 2 years of age though, your puppy will have finished fading, showing their final colour.
While we can make educated predictions based on the parents and previous litters, coat colour can never be guaranteed as every puppy develops uniquely. At Cavoodle Cottage, we focus on raising healthy, beautiful puppies with wonderful temperaments and while we do our best to breed puppies that will retain their colour, we also know that there is no guarantee and their individual colouring may continue to evolve as they grow.

F1 Cavoodle
An F1 Cavoodle is a first-generation cross between a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a purebred Poodle (50/50). They are typically very affectionate, adaptable, and make wonderful family companions with a charming combination of traits from both sides.
F1b Cavoodle
An F1b Cavoodle is an F1 Cavoodle bred back to a Poodle. This generation is often chosen for its more low-shedding, allergy-friendly coat, with a higher likelihood of curlier fleece or wool textures. F1b Cavoodles are also highly intelligent and very trainable due to the increased Poodle influence, making them a popular choice for families seeking an easier-maintenance coat and responsive temperament.
F2 Cavoodle
An F2 Cavoodle is bred from two F1 Cavoodles. This generation can offer more consistency in temperament when thoughtfully bred, often producing very affectionate, people-focused companions. F2 Cavoodles can show more variation in coat type and appearance, but still maintain the loving and social nature the breed is known for.
F3 Cavoodle
An F3 Cavoodle is a third-generation Cavoodle bred from Cavoodle parents over multiple generations. This generation is often associated with more predictable traits in temperament, coat, and size when carefully planned, and typically produces well-adjusted, family-oriented companions that adapt beautifully to home life.
Multigenerational Cavoodle
(Multigen) A Multigen Cavoodle comes from several generations of carefully selected Cavoodle breeding. This allows for greater consistency in temperament, coat type, and size, with a strong focus on producing stable, family-friendly companion dogs. Multigenerational lines are often refined over time to enhance desirable traits such as calm temperaments, fleece or wool coats, and adaptability.
At Cavoodle Cottage, we prioritise temperament, health, and ethical breeding practices above generation labels. Every puppy is raised with love, structure, and early development to ensure they are confident, well-adjusted companions ready for family life.

At Cavoodle Cottage, the health and wellbeing of our dogs and puppies is one of our highest priorities. All of our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive DNA testing through Orivet, an accredited laboratory and are clear of hereditary diseases relevant to the breed, or are carefully paired to ensure no affected puppies can be produced.
Our health testing helps us make informed and responsible breeding decisions with a strong focus on producing healthy, well-balanced puppies with excellent temperaments.
In addition to DNA testing, we closely monitor the overall health, structure, temperament, and wellbeing of all dogs within our program. We believe ethical breeding begins with healthy parents and thoughtful pairing selection.
-
For privacy and security reasons, we do not email copies of our dogs’ DNA reports. However, we are more than happy to show and discuss all relevant health testing results in person or during a FaceTime/video call.
We believe transparency is incredibly important and are always happy to answer questions about the health and genetic testing within our breeding program.
-
Yes — at Cavoodle Cottage we provide a health guarantee for your peace of mind.
We offer a 1-year guarantee against testable hereditary diseases. In the unlikely event that a covered hereditary condition is diagnosed, we will contribute to veterinary costs up to the purchase price of your puppy.
We also provide a 3-day return and full refund policy (no questions asked) if a puppy is returned within this period.
In addition, we offer a lifetime guarantee specifically for PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), reflecting our commitment to responsible breeding and long-term genetic health.
-
Merle is a naturally occurring coat pattern that creates beautiful marbled or mottled colouring within the coat. When bred responsibly and ethically, Merle puppies are just as healthy, happy, and well-adjusted as any other puppy.
The concerns often associated with Merle dogs relate specifically to irresponsible breeding practices, when two Merle dogs are bred together. This can significantly increase the risk of health issues such as hearing and vision impairments.
At Cavoodle Cottage, the health and wellbeing of our puppies always comes first. We carefully plan our pairings, undertake comprehensive DNA testing, to ensure that we never breed two Merle carriers. By following ethical breeding practices, we can ensure our puppies are healthy and set up for the best possible start in life.
We believe education and responsible breeding are incredibly important, and we are always happy to answer questions about coat colours, genetics, and our breeding program to ensure you feel comfortable knowing your puppy is happy and healthy.

At Cavoodle Cottage, our puppies are raised on Lyka fresh food. We love feeding Lyka because it focuses on high-quality, human-grade ingredients and balanced nutrition to support healthy growth and development.
We strongly encourage families to purchase a box of Lyka prior to bringing their puppy home to help make the transition as smooth as possible. Sudden dietary changes can sometimes cause upset tummies or diarrhoea, especially during the stress of adjusting to a new environment. Families can get 50% off their first order with our code CAVCOTTAGE.
If families choose to transition to a different food in the future, we always recommend doing so gradually over time by slowly mixing the new food with the puppy’s current diet to help support healthy digestion.

Yes — all Cavoodle Cottage puppies follow a structured health care schedule to ensure they are healthy, protected, and well-prepared for life in their new homes.
Puppies are wormed every 2 weeks starting from 2 weeks of age, and they are sent home with their 10-week worming tablet for continued care.
They receive their first vaccination and are microchipped at 6 weeks of age.
At 8 weeks, when puppies go home, their microchip details are transferred into your name upon collection. Families are then responsible for completing the remaining vaccination schedule, with boosters required at 10 weeks and 14 weeks of age.
Once your puppy has completed their full vaccination course, they will be fully protected and safe to begin going out on walks and exploring public environments. Before then, you are welcome to take your puppy out in public to begin socialising them, however they will need to be carried to keep them safe.

At Cavoodle Cottage, our puppies begin their early training from just a few weeks of age to help set them up for a smooth transition into family life.
We begin gentle toilet training from 3 weeks of age using puppy grass mats to help establish early toileting habits. Our puppies are also introduced to crate training foundations, receive grooming exposure, sound desensitisation, and daily handling to build confidence and trust.
This early, structured approach helps our puppies develop calm, adaptable temperaments and supports their emotional resilience as they grow and move into their new homes.
-
ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and ESI (Early Scent Introduction) are structured early development programs we use with our puppies to help support their confidence, resilience, and adaptability from a very young age.
ENS involves a series of gentle, controlled exercises introduced during the first few weeks of life to help stimulate the nervous system and support healthy stress response development. This early exposure can help puppies become more confident and better able to cope with new experiences later in life.
ESI focuses on introducing puppies to a variety of different scents during their early developmental stage to help enhance curiosity, sensory development, and confidence when encountering new environments.
At Cavoodle Cottage, we incorporate both ENS and ESI as part of our early puppy curriculum to help set our puppies up to become well-adjusted, emotionally resilient companions.

When a family has decided they would like welcome a Cavoodle Cottage puppy into their home, a $300 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a puppy. Puppies are then selected in the order deposits are received.
The remaining balance is due upon collection at 8 weeks of age for local families. For puppies flying interstate, final payment is required by 6 weeks of age to allow enough time for transport arrangements to be organised prior to departure.
We are always happy to guide families through the selection process and help match puppies based on temperament, lifestyle, and preference where possible.
-
Each Cavoodle Cottage puppy goes home with a carefully prepared puppy pack to help make the transition into their new family as smooth and comforting as possible. This includes dry food and treats, a selection of toys and doggie accessories, a collar, and a soft comfort blanket carrying the scent of mum and littermates to help them settle into their new home.
Families also receive all relevant documentation including health records, a health guarantee, and information to support their puppy’s ongoing care and development.
To help give families peace of mind, each puppy also comes with 2 months of Knose Pet Insurance pet insurance, along with lifetime support from us here at Cavoodle Cottage.

Yes — we regularly organise interstate flights for our puppies and are happy to assist families through the entire process.
Final payment is required by 6 weeks of age to allow enough time for flights to be booked, paperwork to be finalised, your puppy pack to be prepared and posted, and a fit-to-fly certificate to be arranged. All travel costs are at the buyer’s expense, including flights and the veterinary fit-to-fly certificate. We are always happy to provide quotes upon request.
For families receiving puppies interstate, we also offer regular FaceTime video chats so you can stay connected with your puppy right up until they join you in their new home.
